Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks will host three public hearings in July to gather comment on a rule proposal that would allow state wildlife officials to designate the delisted gray wolf as a species in need of management.

Montana Wolf Hunting Season

The season is set. Wolves need managed. When wolves roamed the Montana wilds prior to the Lewis & Clark Expedition, there were no houses in the valleys. There were no cattle. Elk and the rest of the Montana wildlife lived in the valleys. This wildlife was only driven to the mountains due to civilization. If we wipe out the homes and ranches, we can recreate the world where the wolf had a purpose. Short of that unrealistic scenario, the wolf needs to be managed.

Radical Animal Rights Groups are Doing More Harm than Good

The great state of Montana has every intention of maintaining viable wolf populations. Montana has vast wild country. Wolves have a place in Montana. Montana has the discretion to determine their place now that the Federal Government has delisted wolves from the endangered species list, though. The ultra-liberal 9th District Court in San Francisco should not have ANY say over Montana. Montana needs a Federal Court that is reflective of Montana values!!! Yet Montana is faced with lawsuits trying to stop the proposed wolf hunting season, even though the majority of Montanans are willing to accept the wolf, if managed properly. It leaves a person to wonder, does P.E.T.A. and the Defenders of Wildlife really care about the wolf or their own donations?

Sportsmen are the Greatest Conservationists in U.S. History

Starting with Teddy Roosevelt, who is responsible for the National Park System, to the modern day lovers of wildlife, America has been blessed with people who live to conserve wildlife and natural places. A clue people, the true animal lovers aren’t the radical purveyors of billboards, sick advertisements and donations to their so called non-profit money magnets.
The real defenders of wildlife are the hunters, outdoorsmen and fisherman who live to spend a day in nature as nature was intended. Isn’t it ironic that a Federal Court in California that seems to tolerate and even embrace most any behavior should criticize Montana and have jurisdiction over the affairs of Montana? Stand for Montana: Stand for the Real Animal Lovers!

Make your voice heard.
The rules hearings are set for 6 p.m. at the following FWP locations:

# Bozeman— July 16—1400 South 19 th Ave.
# Missoula— July 17—3201 Spurgin Rd.
# Helena— July 18—1420 East Sixth Ave.
For more information visit FWP online. Click Recent Public Notices. Comments, which must be received by July 25, can be sent to Wildlife Division, Wolf ARM Public Comment, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, P.O. Box 200701, Helena, MT 59620-0701, or via e-mail to fwpwld@mt.gov. For information call 406-444-3242.

Many people save for years to make their dream trip to this unspoiled wilderness mecca.

With the tourism has come a competitive market offering a variety of services to the Montana traveler, from simple accommodations to fully guided wilderness adventures. When planning a Montana adventure the traveler must decide whether to go it alone or hire the services of an experienced guide. Arriving at the right decision may be the difference between a trip of a lifetime, complete disappointment or even disaster.

Montana is big country

Visitors coming from other parts of the country are usually shocked at the shear expanse of open country in Montana. Hunters dream of trekking into the high country for miles seeking seclusion and trophy animals. Hiking for miles into Montana’s high country is nothing like hiking for miles in eastern whitetail country, though. The western mountains are steep. The quarry is thinly dispersed, which means pre-season scouting is essential. The weather is unpredictable and the journey dangerous even for the seasoned woodsmen.

Montana is a land of stunning visual beauty and seemingly unlimited recreational opportunities.

Montana hiking and backpacking requires a person to be prepared for any weather from 100 degrees to a blinding snowstorm. It is advisable to be well versed in wilderness first aid. Accidents happen and being unprepared in the Montana high country can exacerbate a simple injury into a life or death situation in short order for those who lack proper respect for the environment in which they have ventured.

The same applies for Montana rivers. Rivers in most of the country do not experience the sheer, violent power of a mountain fed river during peak run-off. Rivers that are dewatered and calm during late summer are raging torrents during the spring run-off. In addition, many of Montana’s best river adventures are remote, with unattended snags and log jams that will capsize any vessel capable of floating the river. Once in the water a human has little chance, even with a personal flotation devise, without highly trained personnel around.

Mountain Men weren’t tough for nothing

Montana is a land of self sufficient people. Montana is the fourth largest state in area and still has less that one million people. Community and being a good neighbor still mean the world. There is little chance someone who hasn’t spent a lifetime rafting Montana, hunting Montana, fishing Montana or hiking Montana is going to be sufficiently prepared for everything Montana has to throw at you. Now, I don’t mean to scare anyone but rather to prepare everyone. The unsuspecting are foolish, the wise know what lies ahead.

A safe wonderful Montana adventure awaits you

The people listed on Montana Guides are the best in their business. They all have that Montana sense of community and the desire to be a neighbor, no matter where you might reside. In a world full of disclaimers, I offer none. I will vouch for every Montanan who lists their services on this site. These are people who will show you hospitality like you have not experienced before. Your dream trip will become reality and you will return safely.
I guarantee it!
Welcome to Montana.

Montana Guides is your source for planning an exciting Montana adventure. We offer free listings for Montana outfitters and guides. I hope having all this trip planning information in one place helps you in preparing for your Montana adventure.

Guided Montana Adventures

Montana has a seemingly endless number of adventures awaiting you. Choose from wilderness photography safaris to wild whitewater raft trips. There is something for everyone in “The Last Best Place”.

Glacier National Park is the relatively unknown gem of the National Park System. Glacier lies in Northwest Montana and adjoins Waterton Park in Alberta, Canada. Glacier is a place of stunning beauty that is unsurpassed anywhere.

Montana also contains a portion of Yellowstone National Park along with several designated “Wilderness Areas”.

Montana Wilderness Areas

The Bob Marshall Wilderness Area lies directly south of Glacier National Park. Several outfitters pack into the “Bob” for photography, float trips and hunting trips.

A float trip on the South Fork Flathead or Middle Fork Flathead in the “Bob” is an adventure every wilderness lover should experience!

The Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness is an under used area of rugged mountains. If you seek solitude the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness will supply you with plenty. There are many maintained trails and some of the most beautiful alpine country a person can imagine.

There are several other wilderness areas in Montana to explore including: Selway-Bitterroot, Gates of the Mountains, Absaroka-Beartooth, Cabinet Mountains, Mission Mountains, Welcome Creek, Great Bear, Scapegoat, Bear Trap Canyon, Humbug Spires, Medicine Lake, Rattlesnake, Lee Metcalf, Red Rock Lakes and UL Bend.

Get Outside

Do you suffer from “Nature Deficit Disorder”? If the answer is yes, do something about it. Norman Maclean wrote, “The Montana of my youth was like a world with dew still on it”. Nothing lifts the soul like some relaxing time surrounded by unspoiled beauty. I hope you find the resources at Montana Guides useful in planning your Montana adventure.
